COMPETITION FORMAT

Twenty teams of four students each are selected from the world’s leading universities to participate in the McDonough Business Strategy Challenge. During the competition, each team will be identified by their chosen team name, as opposed to by university.

Teams will receive the written cases at the Thursday Live Case Presentation, where representatives from the client will present the issue and answer questions. Teams then have until 6:00 AM on Saturday to prepare their solutions and submit them to. Late submissions will be disqualified.

The presentations will entail two rounds – the Preliminaries and the Final Round. Please note that the timing schedules shown for both the preliminary and final rounds are finite. Leftover time from one section of the schedule cannot be used for subsequent sections.

Inform the MBSC representative of your arrival and follow instructions. Teams will not be allowed to enter rooms prior to their scheduled presentation times. Only the presenting team, judges, the timekeeper, and the team advisors are allowed to be in the room during a presentation. All presentations will be videotaped.
Teams may not sit in on any presentations during the preliminary round. Advisors are allowed to sit in on team presentations within their brackets. Advisors may not discuss the case or the presentation with their team at any point before the Final Round ends. Violation of this competition rule may result in disqualification.

Judges will assess teams using the rubric in the “Preliminary Round Judging Rubric”, see page 15. Scores from all judges in each bracket will be averaged to determine the final score for each team.
